Champagne
Valentine Toast
Around the world, champagne is the
drink of choice for most celebrations. This bubbly liquid
has been the source of great giddiness and many head aches
throughout the ages and continues to be a popular choice
for celebrations and parties. Here are ten occasions when
champagne is an excellent idea. 1)
Launching ships. It is said that Helen had the face
that launched a thousand ships and maybe she did. But
the anonymous giver of champagne to the world has launched
far many more ships than she could have ever dreamed
of. Breaking a bottle of champagne on a new ships side
is said to guarantee good luck for the ship. The act
of breaking champagne is said to placate the gods, which
will assure a safe voyage. This tradition has been around
for centuries and is showing no signs of stopping.
2) Weddings. What bigger champagne celebration will
most people have in their lives than their weddings?
Perhaps the birth of a child but for most of us that
is a much more private affair. A wedding is a public
affirmation of love and devotion. We share this moment
with friends and family and we celebrate with good food,
laughter, tears, dancing, and champagne.
3) New Years Eve. It has become a tradition to ring
in the New Year with champagne, noisemakers, and a bang
up headaches the next morning.
4) Anniversaries. When celebrating your love, lives,
and time together what drink would make a better toast
than the champagne beverage you consumed to celebrate
your vows?
5) Graduation Parties. Now, I am not suggesting that
you offer a glass of champagne to a bunch of high school
students. I am suggesting that parents have reason to
celebrate a child’s graduation from high school
and we all deserve to celebrate college graduations,
grads and moms and dads alike with champagne.
6) Presents. I can think of several occasions when a
bottle of champagne is the perfect present. It makes
a great wedding gift, anniversary gift, or housewarming
gift. It’s also a great gift to give to a fellow
champagne lover simply because you discovered a new
flavor and wish to share.
7) Promotions. This one actually works two ways. Champagne
is a great way to celebrate a promotion at work as well
as promoting an art show, a new product line, or a museum
event. It’s amazing how good champagne, especially
when offered freely, can draw a rather large gathering.
8) Retirement Parties. This is kind of self-explanatory.
We like to celebrate our careers as well as the ending
of our careers with champagne.
9) Birthdays. This only applies to the birthdays of
those over the age of 21 of course. But we celebrate
so many events in our lives with champagne, why not
our birthdays?
10) Any time. As I’ve mentioned before we tend
to celebrate various events in our lives with champagne
and yet the average person only buys one bottle of champagne
per year. This says we either aren’t celebrating
enough or simply need to lower our celebratory expectations.
Celebrate your husband loading the dishwasher or your
child getting all A’s with champagne.
Champagne is great present to
give yourself and to others. Enjoy it well, and enjoy
it often.
